On Radio 4 between 8 and 9, a totally unexpected short interview with one-time Kraftwerk-er Karl Bartos.
Paul at my bookshop received an expensive, specialist press-published, limited-run slipcased hardback on Edward Bawden, which I spent quite a while looking through, respectfully washing my hands before and turning the pages extremely carefully. I like Bawden's linocuts of London markets and - via Bella - own a postcard of his depiction of one of Brighton's piers.
Cryptic, by Taupi : a washout. Five out of twenty-eight.
Bought a couple of leads to connect my Vestax to my tape machines, enabling me to make mix tapes once more after far too long a hiatus.
Went over to James's two streets away at six, bringing him the cassette I made last June of my Hugh Davies-inspired double-tracked jar lid improvisation. He seemed to like it a lot - it has a really nice quality, kind of gentle but extremely busy. Heard some of the tracks from the compilation he's putting out - including Sonny Tufts, recorded at their first show at The Freebutt. James asked me to design a page for the booklet which will accompany said comp : maybe I'll photocopy one of the jar lids and then add text across it.
James played me a found tape of kids - a brother and sister - singing made-up songs about bananas. He hopes to release this - it'd make a GREAT three-inch CD-R. I suggested that he have banana stickers printed up onto sticker paper to put on the covers - miniaturised versions of The Velvets' banana.
